“The Book Boys” was originally aired from 1992-1994 on San Francisco Public Access TV, Channel 54, as part of the San Francisco Public Library’s riveting television series, At The Public Library. 

Starring bookbinders John DeMerritt and Dominic Riley, “The Book Boys” used the relatively wide open platform of public access television to spread the gospel of book ways, best practices and arcane factoids about the SFPL while basically talking about themselves the entire time.

Scripts were written and promptly discarded in a failed effort to remain spontaneous. Star crossed cast and guests included stunning turns of acting by Joanne Sonnichsen, Margaret Johnson, Alastair Johnston, Steve Woodall, Dan Flanagan, Margaret Killgallen and Frances Butler. (Much to their chagrin now, both Tom Conroy and Peter Koch rebuffed repeated requests to appear on this historic program.)
