Arion Press and The Brigid Alliance are joining forces to present a public conversation uniting the worlds of contemporary art and reproductive rights. This event will celebrate the launch of a limited-edition broadside with artwork by Alison Saar and an original poem by Evie Shockley inspired by the societal dialogue around reproductive rights in today’s hostile political climate. Shockley wrote the original poem "The Old Ways" for the broadside inspired by her scholarship around Harriet Jacobs’s Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, which Saar illustrated with a Linocut print image.
The evening will feature a dynamic conversation between poet Evie Shockley, poet Aracelis Girmay, and nonprofit leader Serra Sippel, moderated by artist and filmmaker Dorka Keehn.
Tickets include admission to the talk and a catered reception. Hors d'oeuvres and beverages will be served from 5:00-6:00 p.m. The conversation begins at 6:00 p.m. All proceeds from the event and the broadside will be donated to support The Brigid Alliance.
