by Lam Tung Pang
With an original poem by Forrest Gander
For its inaugural collaboration with the historic Arion Press, the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco is pleased to present this limited-edition multiple of artist Lam Tung Pang’s monumental work, Past Continuous Tense, with an accompanying poem especially commissioned for the project from Pulitzer Prize-winning writer, Forrest Gander.
The book is bound by hand in a full brown cloth and opens to reveal Gander’s poem on the left facing the top fold of the five-panel accordion image which extends outwards, displaying an excerpt of Lam’s original, monumental artwork. A Curator’s Note authored by guest curator Mia Yinxing Liu, PhD appears at the rear of the accordion where both artist and author have signed the edition.
The titling calligraphy, poem, and colophon are printed by letterpress from handset American Garamond types. The overall dimension measures 8” h x 5-5/8” w. The edition is limited to 70 copies for distribution, shared equally between Arion Press and the Asian Art Museum.
